(September 5, 2006. Manchester, NH) - Sheehan Phinney Bass + Green Attorney Bruce A. Harwood of Bedford, a shareholder with the firm, has been named one of the Best Lawyers in America by Woodward/White, a national research firm. Harwood is one of 23 SPB+G attorneys to be honored for their outstanding work and distinguished reputations. Harwood was named to the list for his bankruptcy and creditor-debtor rights law practice. Nearly half of the firm's 49 attorneys in New Hampshire made the 2007 list.
Harwood has practiced almost exclusively in the areas of bankruptcy and insolvency. He restructures debt and reorganizes businesses inside and outside of formal
bankruptcy proceedings. In bankruptcy cases, he represents business debtors (both individuals and entities); purchasers of assets in transactions with debtors; secured and unsecured creditors; official creditors' committees; and trustees in bankruptcy (as both general and special counsel). Harwood also mediates disputes arising in connection with debtor-creditor relations. Outside of bankruptcy cases, he represents debtors and creditors in the disposition of assets and collateral, including secured party sales, and represents purchasers of assets from debtors and their secured creditors. He also represents insurance regulators in connection with the rehabilitation and liquidation of insolvent insurers.
Harwood is a 1978 graduate from Northwestern University and graduated from Washington University in St. Louis Law School in 1981.
Of the 23 attorneys named to the list, 22 are shareholders with the firm (with one being "of counsel"), eight are on the list for the first time, seven have been on the list at least 10 years, and three have been on the list for at least 20 years.
Since its inception in 1983, Best Lawyers has become universally regarded as the definite guide to legal excellence in the United States. Because Best Lawyers is based on an exhaustive peer-review survey in which 16,000 leading attorneys throughout the country cast more than a half million votes on the legal abilities of other lawyers in their specialties, and because lawyers are not required or allowed to pay a fee to be listed, inclusion in Best Lawyers is considered a singular honor. Corporate Counsel magazine has called Best Lawyers "the most respected referral list of attorneys in practice."
